FAQs

  • How long does brand design take?

timeframes for each design package are listed on the Design Services page. Add-ons like print design, email templates etc are quoted on request with their own timeframes.

Things that can affect the timeline are other deadlines, my client workload and just general life, so if you have a specific end-date in mind just let me know upfront and we can plan out a timeline that works for all of us.

  • How much does brand design cost?

I’ve made it super easy by creating fixed-rate packages. Head to the Design Services page for details. Other things like publication design and email marketing are quoted on request.

  • What are your payment options & terms?

A 50% deposit is payable upon booking a brand design package which secures your spot. For printing orders and other projects under $1,000 the full amount is payable upfront.

However I am always open to discussing payment plans to make the costs more manageable for you so please ask!

  • Graphic design vs. Brand design... what's the difference?

Graphic design is a combination of tools and skills typically needed for creating individual pieces of media like a logo, business card or advertisement.

Brand design goes beyond that and uses graphic design along with strategy and research to build a whole personality for your business. In my brand design packages you get more than just a logo, you get…

    - Multiple variations of your logo so it’s customised for things like your website, social media and printed products.
    - Font pairings & a colour palette.
    - A visual branding guide with a description of your ideal client, brand voice direction and more.
    - Plus any extras you want to add-on that give you clients a more cohesive & immersive experience, like a pattern design, fully functioning website & email newsletter templates.

  • How do you prefer to communicate?

I’m really flexible on communication methods and I can morph to whatever works best for you. Some people prefer everything written in an email, some people prefer to talk on the phone.

Formal things like quotes, proposals, questionnaires, feedback & design approvals etc are done by email but I also use…
    Phone calls & text
    Zoom
    Facebook Messenger
    Instagram DMs
    WhatsApp or Voxer

If you live in the Hunter Valley area I love to catch up for face-to-face meetings at a local cafe!

  • I've never worked with a designer before, what's it like?

I deeply value the client-designer relationship and I treat it like a creative collaboration. Each client, business and project is unique, so while I have a process that I’ve developed over my 15 years in the industry, I also love how the process adapts and grows and evolves when it needs to.

Generally speaking, the key to working with a brand designer is transparency. If there are things that are holding you back form your potential, limiting the way you show up or stopping you from investing in your business, just be honest with me and we can gently work through it. I have a range of other specialists that I can refer you to if something comes up that’s outside my skillset.

  • How can brand design help me?

Brand design is not a band-aid for a bad business model. That’s why I go pretty deep into your business and uncover exactly why you’re doing it, who you want to serve and what you personally get out of it (besides money) in terms of fulfilment.

Brand design can do wonders for elevating your profile and increasing your engagemment, but you also need to back it up by making sure you’re showing up for your audience and connecting with them emotionally.

  • What is a "single concept presentation"?

Single Concept Presentation (as described in the brand design packages) means that you will be presented with 1 fully fleshed-out & polished brand design concept that includes multiple layouts, a colour palette, font pairings & some mockups of actual finished products like a business card or product label. The reason I have such an in-depth discovery process is so that when we reach the design stage I have a really solid idea of what your business needs, then I choose one strategy and make it perfect before presenting it to you. Usually we could jump on a Zoom call and I’d walk you through each aspect of the design before leaving it with you do review before asking for feedback. This presentation style makes it much easier to visualise their potential brand alive in the world and understand the strategy and symbology behind the decisions I’ve made.

The old way of presenting ideas would usually be to give the client 3-4 different rough draft logos and the client had to either choose between them or end up mashing them together. In the design world we call that called A Frankenstein Logo… a weird looking thing that might incorporate a 2 or 3 conflicting ideas, fonts that clash & colours that aren’t cohesive.

  • What happens if I don't like the design?

It’s normal for clients to request minor tweaks, maybe adjusting a colour or swapping out a font, but changing the entire design has only ever happened to me once. If it does happen, that means I haven’t done my job during the discovery phase, so it’s on me to fix that and adjust the timeline accordingly with your deadline in mind.

During the discovery phase I’ll create a mood board & a written project brief for you which describes the direction, ideal client & brand personality we’re going for, and we don’t move on to the design phase until you’ve approved those things.

If, for some reason, you agree to the mood board & project brief but then change your mind at a later date, that could change the entire scope & direction of the project. In that scenario it’s likely I would need to start again from the beginning, which means it’s treated as a new project with a new cost attached, and the deposit from the original project is non-refundable. So it is super important for the sake of everyone’s sanity & wallets that you are 100% happy with what we discuss at each phase before approving it and moving on to the next phase.
